Second man charged for heinous Christmas day B&E in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — A second young man has been charged in connection with a despicable Christmas day break and enter in Nanaimo.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said 21-year-old Axel Wolfgang Lambert was arrested on Tuesday morning and has since been charged with one count of break and enter.

Lambert and 20-year-old Justin Feusse are accused of breaking into a Stonewater Dr. home early Christmas morning and stealing wrapped gifts and stockings while a family slept upstairs.

O’Brien said the file was a priority for their members.

“It really resonated with the residents of Nanaimo. It was Christmas morning and a lot of our units had to be called in but it’s worth it because it’s absolutely unacceptable to have people being victimized in our city like that, especially at that time of year.”

Mounties issued a warrant for Feusse’s arrest last week and he quickly turned himself in.

“We figured from the get-go there had to be at least two people involved,” O’Brien said. “But we had to connect the dots and through hard work on behalf of our street crime and forensics units, we were able to connect Mr. Lambert to that break and enter.”

O’Brien said Lambert is well-known to local police.

Court records showed Lambert was on probation at the time of the alleged robbery. He was convicted last month for a break and enter in Errington and theft under $5,000 for an offence in Nanaimo. But he was not sentenced to jail time and given 18-months probation instead.

Lambert is being held in custody ahead of a Jan. 22 bail hearing. Feusse will be in court on Jan. 10, also for a bail hearing.
