Police arrest man accused of robbery at Nanaimo bank

Jan 7, 2019 | 10:52 AM

NANAIMO — It didn’t take police long to track down a man they believe robbed a downtown Nanaimo bank.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said David Scott McAree, 41, is charged with robbery after a man made off with cash from the CIBC branch at Port Place Shopping Centre Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

O’Brien said the quality of the bank’s video surveillance system was key in showing a man arriving and leaving the scene in a taxi.

“Based on that information we tracked him to a residence on Wesley St. and within two hours he was arrested and most of the cash was seized and no weapon was produced.”
