NANAIMO – The Clippers completed a season sweep of the 2018 Fred Page Cup champions after beating the Wenatchee Wild 4-1 on Sunday.

The first period was scoreless thanks to some stellar goaltending by Landon Pavlisin.

He stopped all 13 shots he faced.

Even though the Clippers only had four shots, they were all good chances, including a breakaway shorthanded by Mackenzie Merriman.

The Wild's Cal Sandquist also made saves on Gunnar Wegleitner and Devon Mussio.

Wegleitner scored a pair of highlight reel goals in the second period.

First off a turnover in the Wild zone he roofed a puck high to the glove side, then Tyler Williams sprung him on a breakaway for the 2-0 marker.

Wenatchee got a goal back on a deflection by Nathan Iannone that cut the Nanaimo lead to 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Sammy Steele scored four minutes into the third with a perfect shot from the left side, and the line of Wegleitner, Williams, and Marcus Mitchell combined for the game's final goal by the Clipper captain.

Pavlisin stopped 35 shots in the victory and Nanaimo made the most of their 20 shots in securing the win.

That's now nine straight wins for the Clippers which ties them with the Wild for the longest such streak in the BCHL this year.

Neither team scored on the man advantage with Nanaimo finishing 0/2 and Wenatchee going 0/4.

Sunday's Three Stars were Landon Pavlisin (35 saves), Gunnar Wegleitner (2g 1a), and Tyler Williams (3a).

Next week the Clippers have a three game road trip that will take them to Trail, Penticton, and Salmon Arm.
