PARKSVILLE — A Parksville golf lover has designs on making a trip to a legendary course, and some simple pleasures as well, after winning a huge payout on a Lotto Max ticket.
James Hodgins matched all seven numbers on the Nov. 30 Lotto Max draw to split a $1-million Maxmillion prize with another winner.
Hodgins said while retirement is a few years away, the win allows him to take some time off work and travel.
"I love to golf and this money means I can take a trip to St. Andrews in Scotland."
Hodgins also had eyes on a nice bottle of wine and new memory foam mattress.
He bought the ticket at the Shoppers Grocery Mart on the Alberni Hwy. near Hirst Ave.
"I saw there was a winner in Parksville and thought 'oh that’s nice.' I waited until Monday to scan the ticket. When I found out the Parksville winner was me, it had an almost calming effect," he said. "I didn’t scream or yell. I went for a walk to let it sink in."
On the same day Hodgins' numbers were drawn, longtime friends from Nanaimo and Port Alberni respectively were in Vancouver to accept $20-million won on a Lotto 6/49 ticket drawn on Nov. 28.
