NANAIMO — Police say an 81-year-old man reported missing after not being seen for a week has been located safe and sound.

Police in Nanaimo are asking for help finding a vulnerable Nanaimo senior who hasn’t been seen for a week.

RCMP said Rolf Erhard Oehme, 81, left his central Nanaimo home around Nov. 27 and missed several planned home visits with a local seniors outreach team.

Police said Oehme was recently released from hospital after an extended stay and tried to purchase a plane ticket to Europe shortly before he was last seen. He wasn’t able to get the ticket due to his medical issues, RCMP said.

Investigators are following up to determine if Oehme may have left Vancouver Island by public transportation.

Oehme does not drive and has no family on the island.

He is white, 5’11”, 150 pounds with white hair, glasses and speaks with a strong German accent. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, track pants with white stripes on the sides and white runners. He may also be carrying a black travel bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
