PARKSVILLE — A man who terrorized the Parksville-Qualicum region with a series of crimes last spring has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Mark Brooks Lee, 47, received his sentence recently in Provincial Court in Nanaimo after he pleaded guilty to four charges, including a Parksville bank robbery.

Lee was convicted of robbing the TD Canada Trust branch on the Alberni Hwy. in downtown Parksville on May 10.

In addition, Lee pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle in Qualicum Beach without the owner’s consent, break-and-enter, and fleeing police in Nanoose Bay.

Court documents showed the crimes happened between May 10 and May 17.

Lee was credited for 285 days served behind bars prior to his sentencing.

He was also given a lifetime firearms ban and DNA order.

After Lee’s arrest, Oceanside RCMP Cpl Jesse Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW Lee’s actions raised local anxiety levels for several days.

“One person can really cause a lot of damage and traumatize a lot of people in a community this small,” Foreman said.

Lee will serve his sentence in a provincial facility determined by BC Corrections.
