Clippers on season high winning streak after 3-2 OT win versus Prince George

Nov 19, 2018 | 5:23 AM

NANAIMO – The Clippers win streak is up to four games after a 3-2 overtime win over the Prince George Spruce Kings on Sunday.

Prince George opened the scoring on a banked in shot by Ben Poisson to take a 1-0 lead in to the second period.

The Clippers fought back with a wraparound goal from Jonathan Stein and the first BCHL goal by Thomas Samuelsen to grab a 2-1 lead after minutes.

Tyler Schleppe had the only goal of the third to send the game to overtime.

In the three on three OT Jordan Naylor made a fantastic save on Dylan Anhorn to preserve the tie and allow Gunnar Wegleitner to rip a shot by netminder Bradley Cooper, giving the Clippers the 3-2 victory.

Wegleitner’s marker gives him four goals in his last three games.

Prince George outshot Nanaimo 36-28 and neither team scored on the man advantage with the Spruce Kings getting four chances to the Clippers two.

It was Nanaimo’s second straight game not allowing a power play goal against.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Gunnar Weglietner (1g), Thomas Samuelsen (1g), and Ben Poisson (1g).

The Clippers get right back to work on Tuesday when they visit the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Nanaimo is in third place in the Island Division at 11-13, and they sit four points behind second place Powell River.
