NANAIMO — A man is in custody after ramming a police cruiser with a stolen vehicle on the Nanaimo Parkway.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O'Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW officers recognized a stolen car on the Parkway and tried to make a traffic stop early Wednesday afternooon.

O'Brien said the driver "took exception to that," ramming a cruiser while trying to speed away just south of the Northfield Rd. intersection. The impact ripped the door off the cruiser, O'Brien said.

He said officers were able to arrest the man without incident and no one was injured in the ordeal.

A search of the car turned up an airsoft pistol.

O'Brien said it's unclear at this point if any other vehicles were involved, noting multiple police vehicles would have been part of the incident.
