3 in custody after drugs and stolen bikes found at Metral Dr. home

NANAIMO — Drugs, guns and stolen bikes were found by Nanaimo RCMP when raiding a maligned Metral Dr. property.

Police uncovered what they believe to be cocaine, crystal meth and opioids at the house on Metral Dr. near Godfrey Rd. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Up to 40 bicycles, which police said were likely stolen, were also found in an outbuilding.

Two women, aged 35 and 41, were arrested at the scene on Thursday.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the investigation into the home was “jump started” on Halloween when police followed a stolen pickup with two men inside to Allshop Rd. outside city limits, where the truck was stopped.

When searching the truck, police said they found street level amounts of opioids, cocaine, crystal meth, a 22-calibere handgun and ammunition.

The driver, 34-year-old Joel Kelly Millette of Nanaimo, remains in custody charged with 13 drug and firearm charges.

“He is associated to that (Metral Dr.) home,” Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW. “The male in the truck that he was with was later released on several outstanding warrants. The two females from the home are still in custody and face drug-related charges.”

O’Brien said the home was on the verge of being declared a nuisance property and police were closely watching the property for several months.

“It has been the subject of numerous police investigations and this house is directly attributed to the increase in theft from the whole north end, especially on Metral Dr.”

The stolen bikes found inside the outbuilding were in various states of repair. O’Brian said it will take some time to return the bikes to their rightful owners.
