Nanaimo’s dry October gives way to wet November

Nov 1, 2018 | 2:59 PM

NANAIMO — While the mid-island enjoyed more October sunshine than usual, chances are a parade of puddles are likely for the harbour city in November.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon said just 74 mm of rainfall was recorded at Nanaimo Airport in October, well off the average of 102 mm.

Sekhon said the middle two weeks of October featured extended stretches of sun.

“We usually do get a bit of sunshine in October, it’s not nearly as bad as November where we see many storm cycles with rain and cloud,” Sekhon said. “October is a bit of a transition month.”

Having your umbrella and rain jackets within reach is a good idea, as Sekhon told NanaimoNewsNOW it’s slated to get much wetter and cooler.

“The average precipitation is 197.2 mm, it’s the wettest month of the year for Nanaimo. The daily average temperature is 5.6 C,” Sekhon said.

In comparison, Sekhon said the daily average temperature last month in Nanaimo was 9.9 C, which was bang on the historical average.

Periods of rain are in Nanaimo’s forecast for the next several days, with the exception being a sunny sky on Sunday, Nov. 4.
