PARKSVILLE — A chemical testing team is en route to Parksville from the Mainland after a suspicious powder was found inside the Parksville post office.

Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Steven Rose told NanaimoNewsNOW the powder was spotted falling off a package inside a bag of parcels, leading to the quick evacuation of the store around 10 a.m..

Police and fire fighters secured the scene in the 200 block of the Island Highway and called in the drug testing team.

“Given the equipment that’s needed for a safe assessment of the post office, the team won’t arrive from the Lower Mainland until this afternoon,” Rose said. “It will be late this evening or tomorrow morning until we have a more definitive answer of what that powder was.”
