Oct 31, 2018 | 4:46 PM

QUALICUM BEACH — A man was flown to hospital in Victoria with serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 19A near the Little Qualicum River bridge.

Dashwood Volunteer Fire Dept. chief Nick Acciavetti said the crash happened Wednesday just before 2 p.m. when a car was hit by another.

“They were T-boned, one occupant was still inside the vehicle, while two occupants, one from each vehicle were out walking.”

Acciavetti said a man in the car which was hit was flown from the scene, while two other people had minor injuries and were taken to Nanaimo Hospital.

“They had bumps and bruises,” Acciavetti said.

He said bystanders performed basic first aid on the seriously hurt man prior to emergency responders arriving.

Acciavetti said a community park on nearby Centre Rd. was used for the air ambulance to land and fly the injured patient to hospital for treatment.

The RCMP’s Parksville-based Central Island Traffic Services division is investigating the cause of the crash which hasn’t been revealed.

Traffic in both directions of the two-laned section of Old Island Hwy. north of Qualicum Beach was closed for about one hour.
