Man sentenced for bizarre south Nanaimo disturbances

Oct 16, 2018 | 3:20 PM

NANAIMO — A man pleaded guilty to threatening staff at a pair of Nicol St. businesses, including pointing his fingers together as if he had a gun.

Percy James Khambata, 61, took responsibility for a charge of causing a disturbance and was handed one year probation on Tuesday at Provincial Court in Nanaimo.

Court heard the ordeal happened on June 27 when Khambata entered the McDonald’s restaurant and motioned as if he had a gun, threw chairs around the restaurant and was kicked out by employees.

Khambata then crossed Nicol St. where court was told he went inside the 7-Eleven and around the counter where he tried to hit an employee. The 7-Eleven episode happened in front of an RCMP officer, who arrested Khambata.
