No injuries in early morning targeted shooting on Prideaux St.

NANAIMO — One man is in custody after a targeted shooting early Saturday morning near downtown Nanaimo.

Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after 6:30 a.m. near the 400 block of Prideaux St. He’s accused of firing a shotgun at a parked car on the street before speeding away.

“At this point, it appears to be a targeted, isolated incident,” RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW. “However, our investigation is continuing, overseen by our serious crime unit. If there’s a risk to the public we will advise them in due course.”

O’Brien confirmed there were no injuries.

NanaimoNewsNOW heard from those living in the area there were two loud gunshots, which woke many in the neighbourhood and caused a flurry of panic in online forums.
