Discontent City residents charged with assault in connection with machete attack: RCMP
NANAIMO — RCMP say two tent city residents are in custody, charged with assault after allegedly threatening people with a variety of weapons, including machetes.
Nanaimo RCMP said the two men were arrested on Sept. 25 in connection with an August incident on the top level of a parkade at Port Place, across from Discontent City.
Police said Shane Edwards Steinhauer, 42, and William Robert Carrigan, 55, confronted two cars full of people after someone allegedly shone a laser pointer from the top of the parkade into the illegal encampment.
Allegedly armed with machetes, a large butcher knife and a baseball bat, police said the pair and several tent city residents confronted the onlookers, eventually vandalizing the vehicles while shouting threats.
