Open burning ban lifted for Nanaimo and area

Sep 19, 2018 | 9:46 AM

NANAIMO — All open burning is once again allowed across Nanaimo and areas within the the Coastal Fire Centre, thanks to recent rainfall and dropping temperatures.

The CFC announced restrictions on certain types of fires, such as burn barrels, fireworks and sky lanterns, are again permitted as of 12 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Though the Coastal Fire Centre has lifted their fire ban, municipalities often have their own restrictions which may be lifted later. Authorities reminded everyone to check with the municipalities as well before lighting fires of any size.

Burn registration is required for Category 3 fires, which include substantial grass fires or burning, by calling 1-888-797-171.
