Section of Hwy 19 to close for Sonic the Hedgehog filming

NANAIMO — He’s usually fighting to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik, but this week Sonic the Hedgehog will be stopping traffic on the mid-island.
A roughly 12-kilometre section of the Inland Island Hwy. (Hwy. 19) will be closed daily between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. from Sept. 10 to Sept. 14 to allow for filming of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
The closure covers from Horne Lake Rd. to Cook Creek Rd. and traffic will be detoured onto the Old Island Hwy (Hwy. 19A).
Filming for the movie, which has a $90 million budget, will also take over much of Ladysmith’s downtown, as the town is transformed into a rural American community called Green Hills. The movie stars Jim Carrey as the evil villain, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. It’s set for a November 2019 release.
