Report of man waving handguns in Harewood draws huge police presence

NANAIMO — A man police say was waving fake handguns in the air and yelling while high on drugs prompted a huge response in Nanaimo’s south end.

Cpl. Tammy Douglas said they received a report around 7:10 p.m. Thursday about a man waving two black handguns in the air in the street at Park Ave. and Seventh St.

At least seven marked cruisers and officers with long guns drawn flooded the area and blocked off the intersection.

“The male was no longer in the street on police arrival and exited a residence. He was impaired by drugs and arrested without incident. The guns turned out to be airsoft pistols which were seized by police.”
