Crews contain small wildfire south of Nanaimo

NANAIMO — Coastal Fire Centre crews quickly handled a small bush fire south of Nanaimo.

The blaze, discovered overnight between July 31 and Aug. 1, grew to about a half-acre in the South Forks Rd. area, according to fire information officer Dorothe Jakobsen.

“We’ve got a crew working it and it’s already being held, which means it won’t spread,” Jakobsen told NanaimoNewsNOW.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the fire happened on private or public land.

Jakobsen said it’s unclear how the fire started, which broke out in the same area as a much larger 36-acre fire a month ago.
