Liquid gold: gas prices surge in Nanaimo area

Jul 5, 2018 | 4:42 PM

NANAIMO — Filling up at Nanaimo-area gas stations is getting noticeably more expensive.

The Petro-Canada on Terminal Ave. bumped up its price of gas to $1.58 a litre Thursday afternoon, just hours after the Petro-Can in Nanoose Bay began selling gas for the same hefty price.

Most stations in Nanaimo sold gas for $1.46 late Thursday afternoon, according to GasBuddy.com.

Gas prices trending toward $1.60 goes notably beyond what GasBuddy senior analyst Dan McTeague projected for the Nanaimo market this summer. In March, McTeague told NanaimoNewsNOW gas prices in the Harbour City would be at a best-case scenario of $1.32 to a worst-case scenario of $1.45 a litre.
