Island Top Team takes 14 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gold medals at Vancouver Island Open

NANAIMO — Island Top Team boasted some excellent results over the weekend.
 
The local martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy finished third overall in the adult standings at the Vancouver Island Open in Victoria.
 
ITT was also the number one NoGi team at the event.
 
Overall the medal count for the Nanaimo academy was 14 gold, 14 silver, and three bronze medals.
 
Kevin Wong took gold in the intermediate nogi weight class and the absolute division while Jamie Gow captured gold in the gi blue belt weight class, silver in the absolute, and gold in his advanced nogi bracket.

Chace Rosychuk took the nogi advanced absolute division, and Monica Bonczak earned gold in the white belt gi division and silver in the intermediate nogi division.

Matt Willis, who is a visiting student from Australia, took gold in the intermediate nogi division, silver in the absolute, and silver in his white belt gi division.
 
It was also an impressive showing for the kids division, especially for Azia Deal who won two gold medals – earning both of then against boys in the gi and nogi division finals.
 
Kiona and Sienna Miller, as well as Fraser Smith also brought home gold medals.
