Suspect in Parksville bank robbery caught after allegedly ramming police cars

May 17, 2018 | 5:31 PM

PARKSVILLE — A crime spree in Parksville allegedly involving a bank robbery, vehicle and property thefts and ramming police cars is over, with a man facing a “plethora” of charges.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW a stolen car connected to a May 10th bank robbery in Parksville was spotted on Wednesday evening in the River’s Edge subdivision in Nanoose.

He said when Mounties tried to stop the car, the driver allegedly rammed two cruisers and sped off, ditching the vehicle on nearby Kaye Rd.

Then on Thursday morning, Foreman said they responded to multiple break-and-enter calls in the same area. A roadblock was set up and police dogs brought in, leading to the suspect’s quick arrest.

A 47-year-old man is now in custody pending a Friday court appearance in Nanaimo.

“He’s a suspect in a bank robbery, theft of vehicle, several break-and-enters and various other things. One person can really cause a lot of damage and traumatize a lot of people in a community this small,” Foreman said.
