NANAIMO — A full day of basketball skill development is happening at Vancouver Island University.

Brar Basketball is holding a pair of 'Give Back' camps on Friday.

Coach Avneet Brar says they are called Give Back camps because all of the proceeds go towards helping kids afford training opportunities.

"All the funds raised are going towards kids who struggle with costs of camps and programs," said Brar.

Elementary school players took to the court in the morning with middle and high school age athletes playing after noon.

Brar says both age groups will get a lot out of watching VIU athletes do their own workouts in between the two camps.

"When they watch us train they're going to see a high level of hunger and drive to get better. They'll see that drills they're taught to do as kids are drills that those university athletes are still trying to master," Brar said.

It's expected that 50 kids will take part in the Give Back camps and that should translate to about $2,000 raised.
