NANAIMO — A woman has burns to her arm and three other people were displaced when a cooking fire burned out of control at a Hammond Bay home.

Multiple Nanaimo Fire Rescue crews responded to a Norton Rd. home near Yorkshire Terr. Wednesday at 7 p.m. to snuff out flames contained to a second floor suite.

Captain Tom Krall told NanaimoNewsNOW on scene a woman was burned trying to fight off the flames and was sent to hospital.

“There is heavy smoke damage throughout the house, however damage to the actual structure itself is minimal, our crews did an excellent job.”
