Nanaimo RCMP cracking down on distracted driving

Mar 1, 2018 | 2:03 PM

NANAIMO — Efforts to battle distracted driving are ramping up in Nanaimo.

March is Distracted Driving Month, an effort led by Nanaimo RCMP and ICBC, which includes increased police enforcement. Nanaimo RCMP said their officers will devote more attention to distracted driving this month, which could lead to expensive fines.

“We’ll be targeting people specifically on their cell phones or using electronic devices, we’ll be partnering with our community volunteers,” Nanaimo RCMP Cpl. Terry Crawford told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Tickets for first-time offenders busted for using electronic devices while driving get hit with a $543 fine, which includes four penalty points.
