Nanaimo Salvation Army says man trying to dupe people in door-to-door scam

Dec 15, 2017 | 11:43 AM

NANAIMO — The Salvation Army is distancing itself from a man the social agency says is attempting to fleece people out of cash in a door-to-door scam.

Captain Dawne Anderson of the Nanaimo Salvation Army told NanaimoNewsNOW a coworker reported someone door-knocking in Harewood Friday, claiming to be raising money for the local Salvation Army.

“Salvation Army does not do door-to-door soliciting, so please if somebody comes to your door do not give them any money.”

Anderson said the scammer is described as white, about six foot with long straggly blonde hair. She added the man could be flashing a badge.
