NANAIMO — An easing forest fire threat has allowed two popular Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) hiking trails to reopen.
A 21 km section of the Trans Canada Trail from the Timberlands Rd. trailhead by the Haslam Creek Suspension bridge to Harewood Mines Rd. has been reopened.
In addition, the RDN’s Arrowsmith CPR Regional Trail running from Cameron Lake up to the old Arrowsmith skill hill is also open again to hikers.
Both trails were closed for about two-and-a-half months while an extremely dry summer hit the region.
