Moving into Habitat for Humanity home a dream come true for family

Jul 14, 2017 | 12:34 PM

NANAIMO — For Audrey Findlay and her family, a better living situation is only a few weeks away.

They received the keys to their new Habitat for Humanity home on Thursday and they’ll move into the house on Extension Rd. in August.

“It means everything for us to be able to be happy and healthy again because we haven’t had that for so long,” Findlay told NanaimoNewsNOW.

She said their new home will be a remarkable step up from where they’re currently living.

“You don’t have to go out first to make sure there’s no one else there and your kids can go out and play without having to worry.”

The Findlay family will move in to the fourth of six Habitat for Humanity homes in the Meadow Hill Development on Extension Rd. Friends of the family already live in the neighbourhood, which Findlay said is “a weight off my shoulders knowing (my kids) will be okay.”

Habitat executive director Rob Hallam said key ceremonies never get old for him and he’s looking forward to many more.
