NANAIMO — Several improvements are in store for this year’s Vancouver Island Exhibition at Nanaimo’s Beban Park Fairgrounds.

Fair officials revealed details of the vastly expanded 123rd annual fair on Thursday, July 13.

“We’re going to be moving a lot of our venues around, we’re adding the main soccer fields to our footprint this year where we’ll be moving the main stage, beer gardens and wrestling,” operations manager Stephen Kass told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Headlining entertainment acts for the three-day fair are Led Zepagain, Doc Walker and Odds.

Kass said a large Ribfest is on the menu for the first time, featuring 200 tables and 1,200 seats for people to enjoy ribs from four large food trucks.

He noted traditional favourites, such as the animals and Mid-Island Vintage Tractor and Equipment Club, will be on hand too.

At the same time, a commercial expo will take over Frank Crane Arena, featuring about 60 Nanaimo-area businesses.

Kass said there will be kids and teen zones, as well as family friendly and adult beer gardens.
