Jun 28, 2017 | 12:37 PM

NANAIMO — A 25-year-old Gabriola Island woman is dead after losing control on her bicycle and crashing into a parked car.

Gabriola RCMP Cpl. Nathan Dame said the woman was riding down North Rd. towards the ferry terminal around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24. Dame said she lost control trying to make a turn at the bottom of the hill and hit the car.

She was flown to hospital in Victoria but later died of her injuries.

Dame told NanaimoNewsNOW the cyclist was not wearing a helmet and at this point Mounties aren’t sure exactly what happened, other than the fact she wasn’t able to make the turn at the bottom of the steep hill.
