Organizers expecting 6,000 for 5K Foam Fest in Nanoose

Jun 8, 2017 | 7:01 PM

NANOOSE BAY — The chamber of foam, the mud crawl, tube town and a foamy finish.

Those are just a few of the 22 obstacles in the 5K Foam Fest on Saturday.

Organizers are expecting 6,000 people to descend on the site at Arbutus Meadows.

It’s dubbed as a non-timed fun event for anyone eight years and older.

Foam Fest has been around for four years, but spokesman Michael Lambert says this will be the second year in the Nanaimo area.

“We were in Nanaimo last year for the first time and it was a phenomenal event,” said Lambert. “I believe it was our second largest of 14 stops across Canada. Arbutus Meadows is a beautiful venue.”

Participants have finished the course in as little as 25 minutes but alot of groups will walk through while mixing in the obstacles.

There’s no equipment required but Lambert encourages people to have fun with it.

“We’ve had people dressed up as characters from Mario Kart, Minions were popular last year, you can create your team shirts, and some people wear goggles,” said Lambert.

Groups of friends, co-workers and families make up about 85 per cent of the entries for Foam Fest, which makes it a good team building event, Lambert said.

Lambert encourages spectators to come out and watch and take in some of the other side events and food trucks.

For anyone going to Arbutus Meadows Saturday, Northwest Bay Logging Road is closed to all traffic entering the site. The only exit is northbound on the Island Highway.

Those heading south to Nanaimo will need to turnaround at the Parksville exit.
