Clippers 3-0 win evens playoff series with Victoria

Mar 5, 2017 | 8:00 AM

COLWOOD – The Clippers evened up their series with the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday with an impressive 3-0 shutout win.

Goalie Evan BeBrouwer led the way with a 32 save performance and the Clippers scored once in each period on the way to the victory.

A beautiful three-way passing play opened the scoring with Tristan Crozier driving the net after quick feeds from Spencer Hewson and Jamie Collins.

That goal was on a power play and so was Matt Creamer’s in the second period.

He was alone in front of the net and roofed a puck behind Matthew Galajda just four seconds into a man advantage.

Jamie Collins’ empty netter in the third left no doubt the Clippers would win game two.

Nanaimo had a great special teams night, going 2/4 on the power play and killing all six Victoria power plays.

The one blemish in the game was the Clippers losing Josh Blanchard to injury.

He left the game in the first period and didn’t return and his status for game three is unknown.

Both of the first two games have been shutouts, with the Grizzlies winning 1-0 in game one Friday night in Colwood.

In the last three head-to-head games the Clippers have only allowed a total of two goals against, and Saturday’s game was the first time in 10 tries this season Nanaimo has scored three goals versus the Grizzlies.

Nanaimo has wrestled away home ice advantage in the series with games three and four set for Frank Crane Arena on March 7 and March 8.

Game five will go at the Q Centre March 10.
