Parksville residents being asked for budget input

Feb 23, 2017 | 9:21 AM

PARKSVILLE – The City of Parksville continues to fine tune their next budget.

Last fall, a preliminary budget was approved by council that included a proposed 4 per cent tax increase and staff are now hoping to get some feedback from residents on the spending plan.

According to the city’s Debbie Tardiff, they’d like to get that ahead of a pair of budget meetings March 15 and March 29.

“We would love to have their comments and suggestions in advance of the meetings so that council can consider them,” said Tardiff. “There’s a number of ways that people can do that. They can go on the web site and we have a contact box and they can put their comments in there. They can do it on facebook or twitter.”

As council and administration define the spending plan the public comments are vital to the process according to Tardiff.

“They do inform council of what it is that people think they should be spending the money on,” she said. “I have had three suggestions that have come across my desk from residents and those will be passed on to council prior to the first budget meeting on March 15.”

The cut off for comments for the March 15 meeting is March 9. For the meeting March 29, comments should be submitted by March 23. Tardiff says residents can view the municipal budget and financial plans on the city’s web site .

“We all have different priorities and different wishes from a sidewalk to different lamp standards and so those are the things that council will consider as part of this budget deliberation.”
