Nanaimo City Hall staff told not to come to work
NANAIMO — Nanaimo’s City Hall and Service and Resource Centre have been shut down.
An employee at City Hall confirms staff were sent home or emailed and told not to come in Thursday.
While no one with the city’s administration has responded to requests for comment, the move to send staff home and shut down the buildings was reportedly made due to safety concerns with the unsanctioned, pop-up safe-drug consumption site in the City Hall parking lot.
The site was setup by Coun. Gord Fuller and some volunteers on Monday without the approval of Island Health, the city, council or the province.
