Clippers inspired play leads to 3-3 tie

Nov 19, 2016 | 10:56 PM

LANGLEY – They were outshot 48-22, the power plays were 7-1, and at one point the Clippers were down five-on-three for over four minutes, but Nanaimo fought hard for a 3-3 tie with Langley on Saturday.

The Rivermen opened up the scoring on a power play goal by Ryan Barrow inside the first two minutes. Barrow scored again halfway through the period to stake Langley to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Zac Masson was also banished from the game in the first period for his hit on the Clippers Shawn Guison.

Early in the second period Will LeNeave scored with Rivermen goalie Braedon Fleming stuck out of the net. Fleming suffered a leg injury on the play and had to be carted off to the dressing room. Not long after, Matt Creamer was tossed from game with a major for goaltender interference when he collided with new Langley netminder Bo Didur.

Moments later Spencer Hewson received four minutes for high sticking and Nanaimo was down two men for over four minutes. Austin Roden made several huge saves in that span but Ryan Barrow was able to complete his hat trick and put the Rivermen up 3-1. Before an eventful second period would end Taylor Karel fought Langley’s Sean Gulka, and Tristan Crozier was assessed a major penalty and given a game misconduct for a blow to the head.
