Enrolment numbers point to continued growth for VIU

NANAIMO — A fourth straight year of increased enrolment has been reported by Vancouver Island University.

The school’s registrar Fred Jacklin says 8,941 students are enrolled at their four campuses for the fall semester, up 2.8 percent over last year. Jacklin says their first-year student numbers in particular are high, up by five percent.

“Recruitment efforts primarily are focusing on new students in first-year, we also recruit for transfer students,” said Jacklin. “Showing a nice increase in first-year is reassuring that the recruitment efforts we’re making are being heard and being received positively by the students,” said Jacklin.

Jacklin says there is a wide range of interest in their academic programs.
