Elderly woman killed in crash after running red light: Nanaimo RCMP

NANAIMO — A 92-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Nanaimo's south-end Monday morning.

RCMP say, based on statements from witnesses and the other driver, the woman ran a red light at the intersection of Wakesiah Avenue and Fifth Street and was broadsided by a Pathfinder around 11:20am.

The driver of the Pathfinder, a 35-year-old man, started giving first aid to the woman before paramedics arrived, police state in a news release.

The elderly woman later died in hospital.

Police and the coroner are continuing their investigation.
