Ban on campfires dropped as long weekend approaches

Sep 1, 2016 | 3:09 PM

ERRINGTON — Good news for campers heading into the long weekend.

The Coastal Fire Centre has lifted the ban on campfires, noting recent rainfall over the entire region has lowered the wildfire risk.

While campfires are now allowed, category two open fires are still banned within the city of Nanaimo and Parksville.

That category two ban also includes fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels.
