NANAIMO — An alleged drug deal in broad daylight on a central Nanaimo street has three people facing charges.

Nanaimo RCMP say their Street Crimes Unit spotted a drug deal happening in a car, near Bowen Road and Pryde Avenue around noon July 29.

Police report the driver tried to speed off during an attempt to pull the car over, but the vehicle stalled and quickly stopped.

After the failed getaway attempt, police arrested and searched the four people and the car.

One of the people searched was 27-year-old Julien Potvin, who police describe as a prolific offender.

He was allegedly found in possession of an eight inch folding knife, brass knuckles, heroin and $2000 cash.

Police say there was an ounce of suspected meth/heroin/fentanyl in a backpack at Potvin’s feet.

In the car officers allegedly found a machete, two more knives and two cans of bear spray.

Potvin is facing a number of weapons and drug charges. The driver of the car and female standing near it are also facing charges, while another passenger in the car was released.
