Parksville grocery store First on Island to Sell Wine

Jul 15, 2016 | 2:48 PM

A Parksville grocery store is the first on Vancouver Island to sell wine alongside milk, bread and cheese.

Starting Thursday, the Wembley Mall Save-On-Foods will be offering up B.C. VQA wines.

Store manager Colin Dixon says their inventory will be impressive.

“We’re going to have 150 different wineries and about 950 different types of wine in the store,” said Dixon.

Dixon says they also have six advisers and one wine manager, along with team members trained to offer advice on food pairings.

He says food and wine are a natural pair and they will be carrying wines you can’t buy anywhere else on the island.

“It’s the natural progression I think, of grocery stores. Wine is a big part of meals and I just think our company is leading the charge and doing something different and unique.”
