Clippers Rempal to attend two NHL Development Camps

Jun 30, 2016 | 12:29 PM

Nanaimo Clippers leading scorer Sheldon Rempal will be attending two NHL Development Camps.

The first is this week and will wrap up Sunday with the Anaheim Ducks.

Then Rempal will immediately head to the Calgary Flames Development Camp on July 4th.

Coach Mike Vandekamp is excited to see a player he coached for three years get this opportunity.

“We’ve been working on it behind the scenes a little bit, myself, some advisors and Sheldon himself. Just trying to get this experience for him, he’s deserving of this opportunity stepping on the ice at the pro level,” said Vandekamp.

The plan is still for Rempal to go to Clarkson University in the fall.

“He’s allowed to attend as an NCAA player, he’ll still be going to the NCAA next year. That won’t change at all. It’s great experience and it’s a foot in door for him with an organization at this stage, so we’re all really excited for him.”

The 20 year old played three seasons in Nanaimo and had 213 points in 167 games.

He also netted 39 points in 42 playoff games. His 110 point season was good for second overall in the BCHL, and his 60 goals were the most in the league.

Clippers 2013-14 alumni Mason Mitchell will also be attending a Development Camp on July 4th, as Mitchell will be in Los Angeles with the Kings prospects.
