Guilty Plea in Bizarre Port Alberni Death

A guilty plea in a bizarre case of a man found dead in Port Alberni last fall.

56 year old James Ogden has plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of longtime millworker, 62 year old Davin Reid.

Ogden has been sentenced to two years in jail, followed by three years probation.

Originally, investigators believed that Reid died of natural causes, however, following an autopsy and witness statements, Ogden was accused of drugging him with methadone.

Wayne Reid says his brother was denied the retirement he worked so hard for.

“It’s difficult enough to accept that somebody passes away from natural causes, cancer or whatever, and our family has experienced that several times as well. But to die so unnecessarily, after so many years of work, is the hard thing for us to swallow,” said Wayne Reid.

It’s believed the combination of alcohol and the methadone killed Reid.
