Teen skateboarder hit by truck

A 15 year old boy is in hospital after he was hit by a truck in Nanaimo.

Police say it happened late Tuesday morning at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Rock City Road.

Const. Gary O’Brien says the boy was skateboarding when he was hit by a pick-up driven by a 34 year old man.

“It appears, from talking to witnesses and examining the scene, that the skateboarder who was travelling without a helmet and had earbuds in, may not have yield or stopped at the intersection and collided with the pickup,” said O’Brien.

O’Brien says it doesn’t appear the driver did anything wrong, adding the nature of the boy’s injuries aren’t known. He did say the boy was alert and conscious when he was taken to Nanaimo Hospital.
