The School District is apologizing for not releasing information sooner about lead contamination in some elementary school water tests.

In an e-mail from Paula Mason, Manager of Corporate Services for Pacific Rim School District, they acknowledge the community’s concerns about the delay in bringing forward the water testing results and deeply regret the oversight.

Water test results received by the district in May, weren’t released until last week with many parents only hearing about the issue because their children told them about warning signs posted at some taps and water fountains.

Eleven taps at Maquinna Elementary must be flushed before use, or a filtration system installed, after tests showed lead levels exceeded the maximum allowable concentration of 0.005 milligrams per litre.
