Coroner ID’s man shot by police

The BC Coroners Service has released the name of a Nanaimo man shot dead by police on Tuesday.

Dead is 49 year old Craig Andrew Ford.

The Coroner says Ford was shot during an “encounter” with Nanaimo RCMP around 10:45 Tuesday morning on Country Club Drive.

He was taken to NRGH, but could not be revived.

Coroner Barb McClintock says they can’t release how many times Ford was shot or where.

The Independent Investigations Office initially sent a seven member team to Nanaimo to determine if the officers involved committed any offences.

That investigation is still on-going, according to the Coroner’s release.

The Coroner, meanwhile, is investigating to determine if there are any recommendations that could be made to prevent future deaths in similar circumstances.
