No reprieve for Port Pub

City Council voted to stand behind their demolition order for the Port Pub

A lawyer representing the property owners failed to convince council to rescind the demolition order approved in June arguing that internal problems within their company prevented improvements.

Micah Goldberg said the city’s order has prevented owners from accessing funding to make the desired improvements.

He asked council to delay the order by a further two months to begin work and show their commitment.

Councillor Todd Patola said there is little proof showing any action has been taken since the orders were issued.

“The company itself has failed,” he said. “The company has given no indication that it will succeed in meeting any claims of the order. As a litigator I think he would have to agree it may take months and or years to decide, so I don’t think in two months that this situation will change whatsoever, and I would personally not be in support of amending the demolition order whatsoever.”

City staff will now be tasked with presenting demolition or remediation options to council.
