A book of condolences will be available in council chambers for those wanting to send a message or sign their name supporting City Councillor John Douglas’ family.
The 2-time councillor and former Mayor died Thursday, and Mayor Sharie Minions says she got involved in municipal politics because of him.
“For me personally, he was one of the first people to encourage me to run for council in 2014 and I really ran for council because I wanted to be on his council and I wanted to work with him as mayor and so getting the opportunity to do that over the last couple years has been really meaningful,” she said.
“He brought a very consistent vision that he really cared about,” said Minions. “John was obviously a huge advocate and a really early advocate for a new future for the waterfront and the community as a whole.”
