Garbage fire extinguished

Port Alberni firefighters had to navigate back alleys to find the source of toxic-smelling smoke early this morning.

Third Avenue near Athol was a smoky haze around 5 am as firecrews eventually found the source – a man burning garbage in his back yard.

Fire crews assisted the homeowner in extinguishing the fire.
