Biography:

Sheila Malcolmson has a proven track record of serving our community and getting results for people.

First elected in 2002, Sheila served 12 years in local government, including two terms as Islands Trust Council chair. She was elected federal Member of Parliament for Nanaimo-Ladysmith in 2015, provincial MLA for Nanaimo in January 2019, and appointed by the Premier as Special Advisor on Marine Debris in 2019.

Known for bringing people from different backgrounds together to work for a common cause, with workers, businesses, First Nations, community groups, and students, she’s championed fair ferry fares, gender equality, and marine oil spill prevention.

Sheila signed an inter-governmental protocol agreement between Snuneymuxw First Nation and Islands Trust Council – establishing a relationship of respect and cooperation – with the late Chief Viola Wyse, and 12 years later was honoured to witness Viola’s son Chief Mike Wyse cement a groundbreaking reconciliation agreement with the Province of BC.

Prior to her election, Sheila was an energy policy analyst, and worked in small business and tourism on Vancouver Island.
