Biography:

Lia Versaevel, 64, brings a wealth of experience in conflict resolution, collaborative justice, law enforcement, education and advocacy for the vulnerable as the B.C. Green Party’s Nanaimo candidate.

Versaevel spent 27 years with the B.C. Ministry of the Attorney General as a correctional officer, peace officer, probation officer and family justice counsellor before moving to the U.S. in 2004 to work in family mediation.

On her return to Vancouver Island in 2013 she re-established her business, Accord Family Mediation Services, providing professional experience in conflict resolution and serving as President of Family Mediation Canada from 2015-2017.

She has a BA in Sociology and a Diploma in Public Sector Management from the University of Victoria, and earned an MA in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University in 2007.

Versaevel is chair of the Chemainus Residents’ Association, cabinet member of Lions Club International, a board member of the UVIC Alumni Association, a member of the Victoria Fish and Game Protective Association and of the BC Wildlife Federation.

Lia served as an Adult Education Teacher at Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre from 2018 to 2019, and is currently working as a Poverty Law Advocate in the Quw’utsun (Cowichan) Valley.
